The Brooklyn Nets continued their offseason makeover Friday by officially announcing the addition of defensive-minded guard Jevon Carter, whom they acquired in a draft-day deal with the Phoenix Suns for Landry Shamet.
“I think he’ll be that guard, kind of like Bruce Brown, that goes in and changes the tempo of the game on the defensive end and do all the little things that will help them win,” Harrison said. “He’s capable of making open shots from the perimeter. He changes the game on the defensive end so when you get a Kyrie and a Harden doing their thing on the offensive, I think JC will change the tempo and add some toughness and aggressiveness on the defensive end.
“We were just all talking about now when we come to New York, we’ve got two of our guys that we can go see play or practice or spend some time with so it’s not very often that you have players on two different teams but they’re in the same city,” Harrison said. Shamet was acquired by the Nets from the Los Angeles Clippers as part of a three-team trade on Nov. 19, 2020. In his lone season in Brooklyn, Shamet saw action in 61 games , registering averages of 9.3 points on 40.8 percent shooting from the field, 38.7 percent shooting from 3-point range and 84.6 percent shooting from the free-throw line, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 23.0 minutes per game. He also appeared in all 12 of Brooklyn’s 2021 playoff games, averaging 4.2 points in 17.
