Brits visiting Spain could be fined €3,000 from next week as police begin tourist crackdown

Spanish police are cracking down on anti-social behaviour in a move which could see tourists fined up to €3,000.

Brits holidaying in the city of Palma on the island of Majorca will have to abide by new summer security measures from next week. Palma Local Police is attempting to tackle antisocial behaviour in a bid to improve the safety of tourists and residents. The operation will begin next Monday and will run until October 15. It comes as many Spanish tourist spots have been cracking down on boozy Brits and tourists, reports Majorca Daily Bulletin. A campaign has also been launched to combat excessive tourism, aimed at reminding shopkeepers in key areas of the current regulations of the Law on Excesses in relation to the sale of alcoholic beverages. It includes penalties of up to €600,000 for the most serious cases, reports BirminghamLive.

The rule has been enforced in Magaluf, Majorca, and some areas of Ibiza, causing upset to Brits who were expecting to drink by the pool.
