More than 2,000 flights have been cut from British Airways’ winter schedule due to reduced demand because of the pandemic.
It is thought the cuts were planned before the emergence of the Omicron variant and the reintroduction of PCR testing. Before Omicron emerged, the travel industry was showing signs of recovery as governments slowly relaxed restrictions and made key travel routes more accessible again. Of the BA flights cut, London to South Africa, where the new variant was first identified, was among the worst affected routes.
