The member of staff responsible for shunting trains was struck by one as it left St Philips Marsh Depot in Bristol.The government's Rail Accident Investigation Branch is carrying out an inquiry into the circumstances of the accident. The investigation will look at "the actions of those involved and the factors that may have influenced them", it said.
The RAIB will also investigate the processes in place for train movements inside the depot, including the training and competence of staff involved. "Our investigation is independent of any investigation by the railway industry or by the industry's regulator, the Office of Rail and Road," the RAIB added.
