It's unclear what may have happened over the past few days but it is worth noting that although both men opined unfavorably on the women, Furnari took responsibility for failing to prep his co-host and underling in advance on the article -- an oversight that forced Kendall to extemporaneously react. I appreciate the dialogue this incident has sparked and I appreciate that those responsible for the teaching moment are -- at least publicly -- accepting accountability for their perhaps slightly tone deaf statements. I definitely appreciate BevNet for taking the hint of sexism seriously.
Some slip-ups or comments should be punished and some shouldn't. But I feel strongly that any punishment should be commensurate with the crime. Did Furnari and Kendall unwittingly offend a lot of women and men? Yes. Did they utter hate speech or say something demeaning about women? No.
