Debuting in 1991, Step By Step follows the tumultuous Lambert and Foster family as they are thrown together by the sudden marriage of a single father of three named Frank and a single mother of three named Carol .
Co-starring as Frank's oldest son J.T., Brandon Call proved his star potential throughout all seven seasons of the show, and the character was the emotional force of many of the show's best storylines. Of all the classic sitcoms that aired on ABC's TGIF, Step By Step had longevity due in large part to the wealth of characters featured in the eight-person household. Call was particularly given a lot to work with, and viewers watched as J.T.
Brandon Call's Acting Career Though Step By Step was the culmination of Brandon Call's relatively short career, he was already an accomplished actor by the time he landed the J.T. role. After a handful of small TV appearances in 1984, Call made his big screen debut when he provided the voice of Fairfolk in the underrated Disney animated film The Black Cauldron.
The young Brandon Call would return to cinemas in a handful of films in the late 1980s, including a small cameo role in the horror film Warlock, and as Billy in the memorable Rutger Hauer movie Blind Fury. Shortly before Step By Step, Call appeared in over 20 episodes of Baywatch was Hobie Buchanan, a part that saw his star rise even further. Even while starring in the show that would make him famous, Brandon Call also appeared as Zack in the short-lived Hulk Hogan series Thunder in Paradise.
Brandon Is Now Married & Operates A Gas Station Though Call himself has never explicitly stated why he stepped away from the limelight, his Step By Step co-star Christine Lakin told People that it might have had something to do with an off-screen incident that changed his life. In September 1996, Call was shot six times in a drive-by road rage incident which left the young star close to death.
