Scotland EditorAn independent investigation is set to be held into how a disgraced brain surgeon was allowed to keep operating for six months after fears were raised that he was harming patients.the publication of a damning report into NHS Tayside’s response to concerns about Sam EljamelIt revealed that despite concerns being raised about his work, the health board allowed the brain surgeon to carry out operations on 111 patients over a period of nearly six months.
The surgeon, who left some of his patients with life-changing injuries, was eventually suspended in late 2013 and has since moved to Libya where he still practises. “We recognise that many former patients remain understandably very upset and unhappy with what has happened.
