Con Edison crews are bracing for outages due to overheating, though scattered severe thunderstorms with potentially damaging winds on Tuesday afternoon could wreak additional havoc on the system. Tuesday’s afternoon thunderstorms won’t bring any immediate respite from the heat, though it’s expected to cool off slightly by Thursday, dipping back into the mid-eighties.
A warmer and more humid air mass works its way into the tri-state Tue. Heat indices will range from the upper 80s to upper 90s, except along the immediate coast, Twin Forks of Long Island, and SE CT, where heat indices will not be much of a factor at all.
