Business analysts predict that BP could have earned as much as £3.4 billion in profits in the first three months of this year
Oil companies are set to announce more bumper profits this week as they continue to cash in from the soaring cost of energy.
Shell is expected to report later this week adjusted earnings of $7.9 billion dollars for the first quarter. The SNP said ordinary families were "being forced to pay extortionate fuel bills while Westminster reaps the financial benefits". The business said that while it was increasing its spending on drilling for oil and gas by eight billion dollars, it was also increasing spending on the transition to a green economy by the same amount.
"It beggars belief that the Tories refuse to match the Scottish Government's £500million just transition fund, and still haven't delivered the carbon capture investment that was promised in the 2014 independence referendum.
