Judge Andrew Menary ruled in favour of an application from the media to lift reporting restrictions in the case
A 17-year-old boy charged with the murders of Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Aguiar has been named for the first time. The girls - aged six, seven and nine respectively - were stabbed to death during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class at the Hart Space in Southport on Monday. A youth from Banks, who until now could not be named for legal reasons, was charged with murdering the youngsters overnight.
His 18th birthday falls on Wednesday next week, at which stage any order under Section 45 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 would have automatically lapsed. The court heard arguments from the prosecution and defence counsel concerning the matter, as well as representations from the media. But Judge Menary said: 'Continuing to prevent the full reporting has the disadvantage of allowing others to spread misinformation in a vacuum.
