A bombshell statement from a former top official has accused Downing Street of lying about Boris Johnson’s knowledge of Chris Pincher’s ‘inappropriate behaviour’.
The prime minister said yesterday that no allegations he knew of progressed to a formal complaint – but a civil servant says this is ‘not true’
Hours later, a spokesperson admitted he was ‘aware’ of accusations but insisted it would have been ‘not appropriate’ for him to step in as they were ‘either resolved or did not progress to a formal complaint’. Mr Johnson was briefed ‘in person’ about the investigation and the account given by Downing Street is ‘not true’, Lord McDonald, who was the Foreign Office’s most senior civil servant from 2015 to 2020, said.
