Viewers have criticised one of the final comments Boris Johnson made as he delivered his last speech as prime minister.
Truss beat Richmond MP Rishi Sunak with 81,236 votes to 60,399 after party members voted. Johnson said he would support Truss and reflected on his own tenure as prime minister in his final address at Downing Street earlier this morning.As part of his speech, he said: "I know that Liz Truss and this compassionate Conservative government will do everything they can... this country will endure it and we will win.
One viewer, Elizabeth tweeted: "I’m sure he just used the phrase ‘Compassionate Conservative ‘. What a joke!" Similarly, Sue wrote: "Compassionate! He described the Conservative party as compassionate!!" Gaz said: "Compassionate Conservative government?!! No such thing!" and Christopher added: "Compassionate conservative government", so deluded"
