The Prime Minister and Charles sit down for 'cup of tea and a chat' at Commonwealth summit on Friday - as Baroness Scotland is re-elected group's Secretary-General in blow for PM

Boris Johnson suggested he was pleased to see the Prince of Wales acknowledge the “progress” Rwanda has made as the pair attempted to put to bed a row over the UK’s plan to deport asylum seekers to the African nation.

, Mr Johnson stepped back from his insistence that he would tell Charles to be more open-minded about the deportation plan. Mr Johnson said of the talks: “It was a good old chinwag and we certainly covered a lot of ground and there’s no doubt that when you look at, what you can certainly take away from what the Prince said today in his opening address to the summit, is that everyone can see the huge, huge progress that Rwanda has made.”

They were watched by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Commonwelalth Secretary-General Baroness Scotland, who was re-elected on Friday – in a blow for Mr Johnson, who was backing the Jamaican foreign minister to take over.
