“There’s no doubt at all that many senior people performed far, far disastrously below the standards which the country has a right to expect. I think the Secretary of State for Health is certainly one of those people,” he said. He said the messages “will show people just what a complete nightmare it was” to work in Downing Street during the pandemic and “potentially some things that are going to cause some real problems for individuals who were in charge at the time”.
Mr Cummings will likely be questioned on the affair also after he was forced to publicly apologise from the garden of No 10 for travelling from London to Durham during the first lockdown.
