Newly released body camera video from first responders shows the early scenes of dust, panic and chaos after the Champlain Towers South building collapsed in Surfside, Florida, in late June.
The video shows police approaching people. At one point a security guard who says she works at the building approaches police, points at the building and says, “They got to get out of there.”Search and rescue personnel work at the site of a collapsed Florida condominium building in Surfside, Fla., on July 2.There is more than 45 minutes of video from three officers. The videos show residents escaping the collapse and first responders trying to gain control.
In another gripping moment, a man on the street appears to shout to his mother, and a woman can be heard yelling back from her apartment. He pleads with police for her to be rescued.
