Sir Bobby Charlton and Harry Gregg shared an unbreakable bond following the Munich Air Disaster
The son of Manchester United legend Harry, John grew up in the company of Sir Bobby and got to meet the 1966 World Cup winner on numerous occasions.
John described Sir Bobby as a "fantastic man" whose death will leave a huge void in the football world. He also remembered the warm friendship the 1966 World Cup winner had with the Gregg family. "I think it was to be three or four days, which is a bit sooner than it would be in England. He said no matter what, he would be there.
"And that's why I wanted to get home to my mum on Saturday because it was that kind of thing that was special.Pulled from the wreckage of the Munich Air Disaster, Sir Bobby Charlton went on to become one of England's - and the world's - greatest ever footballers.Sir Bobby once said: “All my mates — I think about this fact every day of my life.”
