Bob Melvin, Giants manager, knew a long time ago that Stephen Vogt would be a big league manager.
Bob Melvin, who managed the Padres for the last two years before recently being named manager of the Giants, had a feeling that Stephen Vogt would one day be a manager.Too many meetings mean things aren’t going well. Sometimes Vogt would close the meetings with his Saturday Night Live impersonation of Matt Foley, aka Chris Farley, the motivational speaker who lives in a van down by the river. “Usually there’s separation between position players and pitchers. He’s adapt at understanding and relating to both. He asked me questions during games about strategy that were on the advance side. And this was when he was just a player.
Melvin said the key is being surrounded by a solid and experienced coaching staff. On Monday the Guardians said they are working with Vogt to do just that. Some coaches from former manager Terry Francona’s staff will be brought back.
