Participants have been warned to avoid making contact with the water
The River Action UK campaign group issued guidance this week warning participants in Sunday’s Boat Race to avoid contact with the water during the race, and to abandon the tradition of throwing the cox into the river afterwards.colony forming units nearly three times higher than the Environment Agency’s quality standards for bathing in inland water. “So if you know you’re not gonna be inspected or the likelihood of actually being prosecuted successfully is very slim, then why wouldn’t you you just take your fine on the nose?At present, there is no way for rowers, canoeists or swimmers in the UK’s rivers to know whether bacteria levels are dangerously high.
