Russian warplanes tend to avoid air over Ukraine but regularly fly over the Black Sea, where, according to the Washington Post, US officials say non-contact “interceptions” with Western aircraft are common.
In the US, some senior Republicans said the incident should be a wake-up call to others in their party, including the two men, Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis, seen as most likely to be the GOP candidate in the next presidential election. Both have been downplaying the threat posed by Putin’s Russia.
