Jason Simpson, who was the chief meteorologist at WHNT in Huntsville for more than a decade and worked at WBMA in Birmingham, will be returning to Alabama TV screens.
Jason Simpson has joined Birmingham’s NBC 13/WVTM-TV News team as a meteorologist, the station announced this week.“We are excited about the opportunity to bring home a seasoned meteorologist who has been part of some of the most historic severe weather coverage in Alabama in decades. Jason’s knowledge of our community and storm tracking experience make him a perfect addition to our team of meteorologists,” said WVTM 13 President and General Manager Susana Schuler, according to a press release.
“I’m eager to get back to the business of serving Central Alabama with the WVTM 13 team,” said Simpson in the release. “This group makes up the best of the best in local news, and I feel especially honored to work alongside a man I have admired for years in Jerry Tracey. My wife and I started our family in the Birmingham area over a decade ago. We eagerly anticipate coming back home, catching up with old friends, making new friends, and serving however and wherever we can in this community.
“Timely, accurate forecasting is one of the most important things we do as local broadcasters,” said WVTM 13 News Director Baylor Long. “Jason understands that responsibility and knows the dedication it takes to deliver lifesaving weather information using tools like WVTM 13′s live doppler radar.” Simpson will begin appearing on the weekday evening newscasts starting Aug. 8. He joins a WVTM 13 weather team already including meteorologists Jerry Tracey, Stephanie Walker, Adrian Castellano and Harmony Mendoza.
