Legislation to prevent home health service companies from losing $20 billion over the next decade in cuts from Medicare reimbursement - which could affect tens of thousands of Alabamians - has been introduced by Reps. Terri Sewell and Adrian Smith .will restrict the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services from enacting a 9.36% payment cut to home healthcare companies in 2024, on top of a 3.9% cut this year.

“Many home health agencies will probably not succeed anymore because they can’t hire enough staff to provide the home health services,” Jeffries said. “And hospitals will be burdened as well.”
