Ironically, both the trucking groups that oppose the bills and one of its sponsors cite safety as the reason for their position.sponsored by Assemblymen Joseph Egan, D-Middlesex, who is deputy majority leader, and Deputy Speaker Wayne P. DeAngelo, D-Mercer, would prohibit trucks weighing 10,000 pounds or more from the left lane on all two-lane highways in the state, with some exceptions. It also would double penalties for those who use the left lane on any highway.
