President JoeBiden urged protesters opposing the Supreme Court's Friday abortion ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization overturning Roe v. Wade to remain peaceful.

The president's comments came during televised remarks in which he claimed the decision puts women's health and lives at risk and vowed to continue fighting for abortion rights. Hundreds if not thousands of protesters had already begun demonstrating in Washington, D.C., by the time Biden addressed the nation."I call on everyone no matter how deeply they care about this decision to keep all protests peaceful. Peaceful, peaceful, peaceful," Biden said."No intimidation.

The president claimed to know that"so many of us are frustrated and disillusioned that the court has taken something away that's so fundamental," resulting in women having to face"incredibly difficult situations." "I hear you. I support you. I stand with you," he continued."The consequences and the consensus of the American people, core principles of equality, liberty, dignity, and stability of the rule of law demand that Roe should not have been overturned."

Biden's options to protect abortion access are extremely limited. He reiterated past calls for Congress to pass legislation codifying Roe v. Wade and for voters to put Roe"on the ballot" in the November midterm elections.
