A White House official who previewed the speech says Biden will voice support for changing the Senate filibuster rules to ensure the right to vote is defended. That's a strategy Democrats have been looking to the president to embrace.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden will use a speech in Georgia Tuesday to endorse changing Senate filibuster rules that have stalled voting rights legislation, saying it's time to choose"democracy over autocracy."

"We don't need even more photo ops. We need action, and that action is in the form of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act as well as the Freedom to Vote Act, and we need that immediately," Albright said Monday. The Freedom to Vote Act is a more broad piece of legislation that would take steps to prevent gerrymandering, expand access to voting by mail and expand voter ID laws so that more forms of ID — not just driver's licenses — are accepted.

Often, Republicans pushed those bills in the name of election security as misinformation about widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election spread through the party.

Biden to make 'forceful' push for voting rights, filibuster changes in Georgia speechBiden to make 'forceful' push for voting rights, filibuster changes in Georgia speechWith less than 10 months until the 2022 midterm elections, President Joe Biden heads to Georgia on Tuesday to make his biggest push yet for national voting rights bills and is expected to call for changes to the Senate's filibuster rules in order to get them passed. Echoing his impassioned address on the anniversary of the Jan. 6 insurrection when he blamed former President Donald Trump and his supporters for holding a 'dagger at the throat of democracy,' Biden's remarks in Atlanta are expected to be a 'forceful' call to action to protect voting rights. 'The president will forcefully advocate for protecting the most bedrock American rights: the right to vote and have your voice counted in a free, fair and secure election that is not tainted … by partisan manipulation,' White House press secretary Jen Psaki previewed in her press briefing Tuesday.
