The White House announced Wednesday that President Joe Biden intends to nominate Acting U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Joshua Levy to permanently serve in the position. The U.S. attorney for Massachusetts is the highest ranking federal law enforcement officer in the state.

The White House announced Wednesday that President Biden intends to nominate Acting U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Joshua Levy to permanently serve in the position.in May. She left office after two federal investigations found ethics violations and abuses of power.

Rollins appointed Levy as first assistant U.S. attorney for Massachusetts in 2022. He previously worked in the office as an assistant U.S. attorney from 1997-2004. Levy was also a partner at Boston-based law firm Ropes & Gray from 2004-2021. In his legal practice, Levy handled white-collar criminal matters and civil litigation.

Levy's nomination was one of two U.S. attorney nominations from the White House Wednesday, as well as nominations for U.S. marshal and the U.S. Sentencing Commission. The nominations now go to the Senate for confirmation hearings and votes. The U.S. attorney for Massachusetts is the highest ranking federal law enforcement officer in the state, overseeing more than 200 attorneys and other legal staff at offices in Boston, Worcester and Springfield.Deborah Becker is a senior correspondent and host at WBUR.
