House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he is looking forward to discussing with President Biden a “reasonable and responsible way that we can lift the debt ceiling ” when the two meet Wednesday.
Biden himself has scoffed at the idea of negotiating spending cuts,that Republicans were “genuinely serious about cutting Social Security, cutting Medicare.”
Washington Rep. Adam Smith, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, said that his party supports a clear fiscal plan and that Republicans have been disingenuous in addressing the issue.
