JUST IN: President Biden is on the mend after he had a skin lesion removed from his chest. A biopsy found the small lesion was basal cell carcinoma but 'all cancerous tissue was successfully removed,' White House physician wrote in a memo to PressSec.
A biopsy found the small lesion was basal cell carcinoma, but"all cancerous tissue was successfully removed," White House physician Kevin O'Connor wrote Friday in a memo to press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre."The area around the biopsy site was treated preemptively with electrodesiccation and curettage," O'Connor said."No further treatment is required."
Basal cell carcinoma lesions do not tend to"spread" or"metastasize," but they do"have the potential to increase in size, resulting in more significant issues as well as increased challenges for surgical removal," the doctor added. "The site of the biopsy has healed nicely, and the president will continue dermatological surveillance as part of his ongoing healthcare," he said. After Biden's second physical of his presidency, O'Connor described him as a"healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the presidency" before he is likely to seek reelection next year.
