President Joe Biden's approval rating has taken another hit within his own party, coinciding with his unequivocal support for Israel after Hamas terrorists staged a surprise attack on Israeli civilians and soldiers nearly three weeks ago.
Democrats' approval rating for Biden's job fell 11 points over the last month, reaching a historic low of 75% as indicated by the latest Gallup poll. While his approval rating among Republicans has stayed relatively unchanged in the single digits margin for years, the president lost some support among independents, declining 4 points in the last month, to 35%.The poll was conducted between Oct. 2 and Oct.
Biden's initial response to the Hamas attacks was widely praised by Democratic lawmakers, which included a visit to Israel and a request for $14 billion in new funding for military and humanitarian aid, part of broader national security legislation worth nearly $106 billion, which includes funding for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan.
While Biden announced he'll seek $100 million in humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, factions of the Democratic Party have called on the president to do more to help the Palestinian civilians who have been under siege in the 140-square mile territory for weeks. The Gaza Health Ministry reported 7,028 Palestinians, including 2,913 children, have been killed amid fighting between Israel and Hamas.
Some Democratic voters and progressive lawmakers are pushing the president to call for a temporary ceasefire to assist Palestinian civilians, a move Biden is unlikely to make unless talks of Hamas releasing all the hostages it seized from southern Israel are in the works.
