The Biden administration has started 2023 by appealing to Republicansto pass a broad immigration bill first introduced two years ago as a way to end the migrant crisis.

Border town residents in Yuma share how the ongoing migrant surge has pushed their community to the brink of collapse under President Biden's leadership.through Congress that it introduced two years ago when it first entered office -- but that still shows no sign of picking up any Republican support due to its inclusion of an amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants.

"But congressional Republicans have refused to consider my comprehensive plan," Biden said, while announcing a number of new border measures., which was unveiled on Biden’s first day in office in 2021, and officially introduced in the Senate a month later. At the core of the bill is an eight-year path to citizenship for illegal immigrants in the U.S. in the U.S. before Jan.

However, to pass at that time, it would have required the support of 10 Republicans in the Senate -- which immediately seemed unlikely, if not impossible. Sen. Bob Menendez, D-NJ., described getting such a measure through Congress as a"Herculean task."Sure enough, it met a firewall of Republican resistance in Congress, who immediately objected to passing a mass amnesty just as there were signs of rising border numbers -- numbers that would hit historic highs in the months ahead.
