Better Call Saul's surprise finale cameo almost happened sooner, according to the actor involved. The Breaking Bad spinoff wrapped up earlier this month with a satisfying ending that has since garnered praise from critics and fans. Created by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, Better Call Saul served as both a prequel and a sequel to the original series, offering some insight on what happened to key characters after the events of Breaking Bad.
Bringing Bob Odenkirk's character Saul's journey to a close wasn't the only goal of Better Call Saul's finale. Since the series served as the final installment in the Breaking Bad universe, plenty of characters from both shows needed closure. The finale saw appearances from Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut, Michael McKean as Chuck, Bryan Cranston as Walter White, and shockingly, Betsy Brandt as DEA agent Hank's wife, Marie Schrader.
There was. Vince had an idea about possibly bringing Marie back in a certain moment pretty early on. I think it was Season 2. I think Peter said it wasn’t the moment. I was hopeful that I would come back at some point. As the seasons went on, I didn’t know, but I’m honored they had me back for the finale.
Based on Brandt's comments, it's clear that Gilligan was certain he wanted to have Marie to make an appearance on Better Call Saul, he just wasn't sure how to incorporate the cameo organically. In season 2 of the show, Saul was still worlds away from the character he would eventually portray in Breaking Bad. As such, it's difficult to imagine Marie fitting into his story at that time, so her cameo would have been surface-level at best.
Though Gilligan has stated that Better Call Saul is likely the end of the line for the extended Breaking Bad franchise, he has expressed his interest in returning to the show's universe if the story makes sense and doesn't feel exaggerated. Given that Brandt waited several years before receiving the call to reprise her role as Marie, it seems that it sometimes takes a while for things to fall into place.

Sleep Better, Lead BetterAlthough experts recommend eight hours of sleep a night, many of us don’t get that. A recent study of leaders across the world found that 42% average six hours of shut-eye or less. Insufficient rest leads to poor judgment, lack of self-control, and impaired creativity. And the author’s research shows that sleep-deprived bosses hurt their teams along with themselves: They are more likely to mistreat employees and create a workplace where people feel less engaged and may even behave less ethically. Fortunately, there are ways to get more and better rest. These include sticking to a regular bedtime and wake-up time; avoiding caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and screen time before bed; tracking your sleep patterns and adjusting your habits accordingly; getting treatment for sleep disorders; and napping during the workday. If you make sleep a priority, you’ll probably be a more productive—and inspiring—leader.
