“If we want to beat Donald Trump, that means we have to turn out every last voter.” Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, former Michigan gubernatorial candidate and Bernie Sanders supporter, discusses Sanders’ strategy with smerconish ahead of tomorrow’s debate.

"Last night obviously was not a good night for our campaign from a delegate point of view," Sanders said, listing his his losses in the Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi and Idaho primaries, before noting a victory in North Dakota and reminding viewers of his lead in Washington state.

Sanders explained his decision, saying he would use the debate to address those electability concerns and, potentially, the trajectory of the race, by peppering"my friend Joe Biden" with a series of questions over his commitment to addressing the issues central to Sanders' agenda. Sanders lost every county in Michigan, a state he won in the 2016 primary against Hillary Clinton. He was also defeated by his challenger, Former Vice President Joe Biden, in Mississippi, Missouri, and Idaho. Sanders won North Dakota, and he appears poised to eke out a narrow victory in Washington state, but to call it cold comfort would be an understatement. Still, Sanders maintained that Biden is winning the electability argument, his campaign is winning the ideological debate.
