The NFL reportedly admitted on Monday that it messed up one of the compensatory picks the Bengals received on Friday.
The NFL announced on Friday the 34 compensatory picks across the league. The compensatory picks are positioned from Rounds 3-7 based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost. The formula that determines compensatory free agents is based on salary, playing time and postseason honors.
The Bengals were initially awarded two sixth-round compensatory picks, but in the league's initial valuation of contracts it weighed safety Jessie Bates as a fourth-round value, cancelling out the comp pick possibility with left tackle signee Orlando Brown. But following Monday’s revision it appears Bates is a third-round value, earning the team a third-round pick.Round 2: No. 49 overallRound 5: No.
