The contest garnered plenty of hype before either team touched the field. It was one of just nine 11-man high school games around the state that featured a pair of undefeated teams. “Our kids were focused in, ready to go,” said Bellville coach Grady Rowe, whose team improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in district action. “They knew this was a good football team, an undefeated football team, and if they wanted to be in the driver’s seat for the district championship, we had to take care of business tonight.”Royal seized some early momentum, recovering a Bellville fumble on the second play from scrimmage.
Bellville finished off the first-half scoring on another touchdown pass from McCann. The senior found a wide-open Bucky Koy for a 22-yard score on third down. It was Koy’s third catch of the season and second touchdown.
