Baylor University’s goal for new HR apps? Reigniting workplace joy paid Oracle
Since her first day on the job at Baylor University in 2014, Cheryl Gochis longed to scuttle the aging and unwieldy computer system running the HR function. Like a rusty old ship, the HR system was too cumbersome.
Later this month, for example, Baylor offers a two-day Mission Fair where students and staffers learn about volunteer opportunities at 80 local nonprofits, from caring for animals in Waco’s Cameron Park Zoo to preparing and delivering lunches to homebound seniors with Meals on Wheels. Farther afield, students, staff, and faculty participate in service trips around the world.
“In the past we were using several systems that weren’t designed around HR, so we constantly had to modify the system to make it what we wanted it to be,” Gochis says. As a first step, the Project Ignite team re-evaluated the efficiency of every campus HR process. For example, after learning the university used as many as 11 payroll cycles to calculate employee pay, the finance and payroll team pared those down to two.
