Nine-bout boxing card features law enforcement, members of the military, firefighters and first respondents
The annual “Battle of the Badges” has carved out a niche as one of the more unique sporting events in San Diego, and Saturday evening’s 18th edition on deck of the USS Midway will be no exception.
“We’re looking for the next Oscar De La Hoya but our main mission is to send the next group of kids to college,” Cassillas. “Sports can be a powerful force in getting young people into a positive environment that encourages making good decisions and avoiding some of the traps that are in our communities.”
An example of one such bout pits National City police officer Freddy Tec against Ryan Latney of the San Diego Fire Department.
