Tim Burton's Batman movies started a live-action Batman trend that continues to this day – Batman villains will likely steal the show and overshadow the Dark Knight himself. Jack Nicholson’s Joker had set the bar high for the next Batman movie villains, but Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman and Danny DeVito’s Penguin were ready to meet the challenge.

In fact, the original Batman Returns ending would not have shown Catwoman alive. Batman Returns’ actual ending came to be after a reshoot that reportedly cost $250,000.
Why Tim Burton Reshot Batman Returns Ending Michelle Pfeiffer stole the show in Batman Returns, and Warner Bros. was aware of it before the movie even premiered. It was clear that Pfeiffer’s version of Catwoman would be one of Batman Returns’ highlights, and killing off the character at the end of the film would be a mistake in the long term.
It was still unclear whether Burton’s Batman 3 would happen, but the success of the original Batman film meant that the franchise would surely continue past Returns. Even though Burton did not return for Batman 3, there were plans for a Catwoman spinoff movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer. The project would have reunited Burton and Pfeiffer, as well as writer Daniel Waters and producer Denise Di Novi.
Catwoman Deserved More Than Her Canceled Spin-Off Michelle Pfeiffer’s portrayal of Catwoman is often listed as one of the best performances in a comic book movie.
