Henry Winkler confirms that Barry season 4 has now been filmed and is in post-production, but won't address whether it will be the show's last, as he previously hinted. 'I cannot talk to you about that because they will come and take my grandchildren.'
Barry star Henry Winkler provides a cryptic update on season 4, including whether it will be the final season. First airing on HBO in 2018, Barry stars Bill Hader as a hitman who decides to abandon his life of crime in order to become an actor in LA. The show, which is co-created by Hader and Alec Berg, has been met with strong reviews from critics, who praise its humor, performances, and strong writing. Barry season 3 first aired on HBO in April of last year before airing its finale in June.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent interview with E! News at the 2023 Golden Globes, Winkler reveals that filming for Barry season 4 is now complete, in addition to providing additional details about what fans can expect from his character. When asked which part of the season is his favorite, Winkler says, "The first scene, all the way to the last scene. I had the honor of being the last shot of the season." Interestingly, when asked if Barry season 4 will be the show's last , Winkler is more cryptic, joking, "I cannot talk to you about that because they will come and take my grandchildren. They are so strict, I cannot say a word except that it's on HBO and it's called Barry.
Hader's character is arrested at the end of season 3 and, even if he does somehow manage to escape custody, there's a limit to how much longer he can believably continue to get away with things. It's not clear yet what is in store for Barry in season 4, but it's looking more and more likely that the hitman-turned-actor will face a reckoning for his past misdeeds.
Despite being one of the most tense, well-acted, and well-written shows currently on TV, it's for the best that Barry ends with season 4 or, at the latest, season 5. If the show is pushed beyond its natural conclusion, Barry's character arc could suffer and the show could ultimately lose its momentum and that believable edge. While Winkler's comment affirms that Barry season 4 is now in the editing process, the HBO dark comedy still does not yet have a firm release date.
