Velocity Badminton to open in McKinney with 14 courts
“One of the challenges for badminton, there are not that many local tournaments, and you always have to travel so it becomes very expensive,” Gupta said. “As we get more clubs and as the sport grows in Texas, we can start having more local tournaments.”“In India, everybody plays badminton. It’s fun, and a backyard sport everybody knows,” he said.Gupta said he has played recreationally in the U.S. for more than 20 years. His time on the court is how his daughter became interested in the sport.
“I have seen the growth and the demand for the sport for the past 10 years in the Bay Area, and I see a similar demographic in the Dallas area,” Vedere said. “But when we go to Dallas, the number of badminton facilities serving the sport there are very, very less. And some of these existing facilities are having to open 24/7 and people are playing past midnight.”
“It’s a high school sport not just in California; it’s in Seattle, and it’s in Chicago, they are on the East Coast,” he said. “Kids in the Dallas area are missing out, especially when the weather is so warm. I feel that we could use one more indoor sport.” “So because of her I got attached to the sport, then started engaging in the volunteer service we do in Northern California,” Jaiswal said.
