Ballo was named the Pac-12's Most Improved but Jaime Jaquez beat out Azuolas Tubelis for POY.
Bruce Pascoe Arizona Daily Star Arizona's Azuolas Tubelis and Oumar Ballo were named to the 10-player all-Pac-12 first team Tuesday, while Ballo was also named the conference's most improved player.
In the Pac-12's other major award, USC's Reese Dixon-Waters was named the Sixth Man of the Year. UA's Pelle Larsson won the award last season but was not eligible for this season because he started seven conference games, one above the maximum allowed, before he moved to the bench. Tubelis became the first player to lead the Pac-12 in both scoring and rebounding since Cal's Leon Powe did so in 2005-06, but Jaquez ranked in the league's top five in scoring and rebounding . Jaquez also finished strongly, is considered a better defender, and led the Bruins to a conference championship by four games -- a factor UA coach Tommy Lloyd said should figure into individual postseason awards.
"So congrats to them. They've had an incredible season. I think at the end of the day, it's always about the team and individuals that deserve to be honored will be honored."
