San Diego State wins on Jordan Byrd's 1-yard touchdown run after taking shutout into the fourth quarter
It has been roughly a century since the forward pass was introduced to football, though the Aztecs don’t seem intent on celebrating that aspect of the game.
“The offense came alive, did some really good things in the two-minute and I think overall we just competed,” said SDSU head coach Brady Hoke, adding, “The big drive when we need it at the end by the offense, you know, it was really nice to see, obviously. We’ve just got to try to generate that early.”
On Toledo’s next possession, the Rockets drove to the SDSU 16-yard line when running back Peny Boone fumbled and linebacker Cooper McDonald scooped up the loose ball. He made it a point to look for tight end Mark Redman, who was targeted seven times and led the Aztecs with four receptions for 19 yards.
Midway through the third quarter, SDSU had 156 yards in total offense — 80 yards on its scoring drive and 76 yards on all its other drives combined. Browning’s effort made Toledo start from its own 7-yard line. Finn capped a 93-yard drive with a 1-yard keeper for a touchdown, launching himself to get over the goal line for a 14-10 Rockets lead. For the game, Finn was 21-for-34 passing for 240 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. He also rushed 11 times for 44 yards and a score.
