Mary Clark Ormond joined the Aurora Historical Society in 2010 and began serving as board president just two years later.

“We were looking to build the board and, of course, Neil Ormond is a gigantic name in town – everyone is familiar with him and what he’s done and we said let’s try to get Neil,” Jaros said. “At that time, he had way too many commitments and someone did say – ask Mary. I was familiar with her as she was active in the community in clubs and I knew of her. We gave that a try and it pretty much worked out.
Her first thought about retiring came two years ago, saying that “for some time I thought I should retire but it’s just so much fun and I love it so much that I just kept lingering and lingering.” “Those were dramatized tours of the house and it was so much fun to come up with the theme for every year because we always based it on history,” she said. “We limited ourselves to the years that the Tanner family actually occupied the house. We would think up how the Civil War impacted them and we went as far as 1923 and the Jazz Age.”
