The Aurora City Council recently approved a technology upgrade for the Grand Community Center on the East Side.
Aldermen approved a resolution to buy equipment to provide internet access, door access controls, surveillance cameras and appropriate licensing for the center at 1226 Grand Blvd.The city will by the equipment for $104,282 from Scientel Solutions LLC, on Eola Road.
The Grand Boulevard Center’s history actually goes back to shortly after World War II, when African American veterans returning from the war built the facility. It was used as a community entertainment spot for dances and other social events, originally. Taking Back Our Community organizes neighborhood clean-up events and sponsors a yearly National Night Out event at the center.
