It’s the pair’s second collaboration following their 2018 team-up “Darkside,” and the chemistry is palpable in this, with Au/Ra’s forlorn vocals providing an ethereal lightness to Walker’s hip-hop-inflected, bass-heavy production. True to its name, “Ghost” is dark, melancholy, moody -- a brooding reflection upon a person and situation that has since faded away., which was developed by iconic Japanese video-game creator Hideo Kojima, finds its main character after the collapse of civilization.
In a press release, Au/Ra says that she wrote the song while getting used to frequently being away from home: “At that time I was feeling very disconnected from friends and family, and I needed to write something about that feeling of isolation. It ties in with the concept of-- the isolation and disconnection in that world and its people, that the protagonist, Sam Porter, is trying to connect again.
Says Walker, “It’s a true honor to play a small role in this release with so many other amazing artists...And I’m very excited to see what the game itself is like, Hideo Kojima is really a true legend!”is out on Nov. 7 and includes music from Major Lazer & Khalid, The Neighbourhood, Bring Me the Horizon and more.
