They met in the playoffs the last two seasons, with each team winning a Region III-6A Division I semifinal.On Friday, the Eagles and Panthers will meet for the third straight season in the regional semifinal round.
“I think that they have been in enough football games and know what it takes to win,” Atascocita coach Craig Stump said of his Eagles. “They have to be disciplined to do what they have to do day by day. When you lose respect on what it takes to win, then that’s usually when something bites you. You have to stay focused each and every day and get better.
Atascocita’s defense has 14 interceptions and nine fumble recoveries and has allowed opponents 204 yards per game. The Ridge Point offense is averaging 363 yards. “It all goes back to the basics in the playoffs,” Stump said. “All these teams are good. You don’t overcome pre-snap penalties like you would in the middle of the season and turnovers. Someone is going to have the upper hand in those. Our defense has played well on stopping the run, and we will have to do that this week, too.”
Ridge point senior running back Ezell Joly has 150 carries for 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns this season.
