Someone with money to spare placed a special order at Rustika Café and Bakery in Friendswood, just in time for the Astros postseason: A cake version of a vintage baseball bat.
Rustika chef Francis Reznik and CEO Marco Reznik said they're no strangers to making Astros-themed cakes, including replicas of hats and gloves. This was a"The only thing they told us was to take care of the bat," Francis said."They wanted it exactly the shape and size of the bat. I had to duplicate it, wood and everything."The replica is a chocolate fudge cake with a chocolate ganache both inside and out.
The outer layer of ganache is thin and hardened in the fridge. A portion of it is made with Rice Krispies Treats and, of course, fondant."When they picked it up, they were very excited for it," Marco said."All we know: It was for a very special private event. We're not exactly sure who it was for or what kind of event it was.". Marco and Francis said they couldn't quite make out the signature at the end of the bat, and neither could I.
