Recovering from right shoulder surgery that affects his hitting, the lefthanded Michael Brantley didn't have trouble participating in outfield drills during spring training.Having been with the Astros to partake in the season-opening celebration of their 2022 championship, including Friday’s on-field ring ceremony at Minute Maid Park, Michael Brantley returned to West Palm Beach, Fla., on Sunday morning to continue his rehab from offseason shoulder surgery.
Baker hopes to have the left fielder back by the end of the month, if not sooner. He said Brantley is “really wanting to get back” but noted the veteran would have a rehab assignment before rejoining the Astros. Baker said righthander Lance McCullers Jr. threw off flat ground Sunday and is making progress as he comes back from a muscle strain in his right elbow.
On the bullpen front, Baker was hopeful closer Ryan Pressly would be available Sunday after being sick for a couple days. Noting how things go around, Baker said reliever Ryne Stanek was under the weather and that he didn’t plan on having him available Sunday.
