The Astros acquired outfielder Bligh Madris from the Tigers, giving Houston upper-level minor league depth at both corner outfield spots and much-needed roster flexibility.The Astros acquired outfielder Bligh Madris from the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations.
Madris is now a member of Houston’s 40-man roster, which is at 39 after his addition. The 26-year-old outfielder affords the Astros upper-level minor league depth at both corner outfield spots and much-needed roster flexibility. Madris has two minor league option years remaining. Madris made his major league debut last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, appearing at four different defensive positions across 39 games. He slashed .177/.244/.265 in 123 major league plate appearances before the Pirates placed him on waivers.
Tampa Bay claimed him and placed him on waivers again before the Tigers claimed Madris in November. Detroit designated him for assignment in December. A former ninth-round pick of the Pirates, Madris has a .748 OPS across five minor league seasons, during which he saw most of his time in right field. Madris also has time in left field, center field and at first base.
