A man accused of the murder of Ashley Dale says he stayed at a hotel with her killer the night after the shooting for a "swim, steam and sauna".
"The Mercure Hotel is actually a local gym where I go for a swim, steam and sauna, I use it quite regularly to be honest. When we got there, the facilities was closed down for maintenance." He added it was a "shame that the facilities were shut" during this stay. Peers said they were seen being picked up from the hotel in his dad's van and leaving for a period of time on the evening of August 22 "to get food or something from the KFC", saying: "We was actually going the gym for a swim, steam and sauna.
Peers said: "When we first stayed in the hotel from the 21st to the 23rd, I was originally making plans to stay with the girl I was seeing at the time in the hotel. I ended up staying with Witham instead of making that reservation with her. "This time, they were not to be diverted from their intention to kill. One of the men approached the front door of 40 Leinster Road and he kicked it in. Ashley plainly became aware of what was happening. She screamed and fled towards the back door of the house, but the man entered the house and he pursued her.
