The Bel Air K Station Apartment Homes are in downtown Plano.PLANO — Plano is nearly built out, but the city is still looking to the future, Mayor John Muns told residents in person and online at Plano’s 2023 State of the City on Thursday evening.
The free event began with the Plano Faces Fair, where citizens could meet the city’s department representatives, and featured a special exhibition hosted by the historic Douglass Community in celebration of Black History Month. Residents also had the opportunity to see the North Texas Performing Arts flagship facility.
“Adjusting to this reality requires innovative strategies,” Muns said. “Plano is focused on where we have been as well as where we want to go. This provides us with an opportunity to embrace possibility with the impact for now and the long term.” The area which once housed the Collin Creek Mall has been under development to become a pedestrian-friendly urban center with hundreds of single family townhomes, a couple of thousand multifamily units and over 300,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. A parking garage for the area is nearing completion.
