No wonder they look alike.Sting is on the U.S. leg of a multinational “My Songs” tour that later this fall will move to Europe — specifically Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Spain.
I run hot and cold on Sting. With The Police, he was a dynamic performer and songwriter. No one else sounded like that band. On his own, he’s flirted with a variety of musical genres, but basically settled in as a kind of hip pop star. He’s known aside from his music for his activism on a number of causes. Yes, he can be strident and sometimes pretentious, but there’s no question he’s someone who advocates fiercely for what he believes.
I don’t find Sting nearly as interesting as he finds himself, but that’s OK, too. He turns 72 on Monday, and he’s still a vital and prolific artist. Hey, I just realized — we’re both Libras!If music festivals are on their way out, as more than a few national pundits have suggested, they haven’t been paying attention to San Diego. We just had the Adams Avenue Street Fair and the CRSSD electronic music festival last weekend, and San Diego Bayfest back in July.
, the Hawaiian reggae artist who I wrote about back in pre-pandemic 2020 when she performed at the Boomshaka Music Festival at Pechanga Arena. Mission Bayfest also comes with food, drinks and those soothing bay breezes. Festival tickets are $60-$250 for Friday or Saturday, $99 to $400 for a two-day pass. There’d better be a lot of soothing breezes. Here’s the lineup:
